I taught 11 yoga classes in person last week... 11!!

Here's why I won't do that again...

Don't get me wrong, I do love teaching yoga classes in person.

But teaching MULTIPLE CLASSES everyday...(!!! 😵)

Can be so exhausting!

🚗 Constantly running back and forth to studios

🤔 Trying to remember what I already said in each class

😴 Starting early in the morning and finishing late at night

😭Feeling physically tired at the end of each day from teaching so much

(For reference: I was subbing for a teacher who was on vacation!)

The studio model of teaching yoga can be SO draining- even if you love teaching!

Having an online course has been *life changing* in the fact that now I'm finally able to only say YES to the classes I do want to teach, and no to the classes I don't want to teach! Hello freedom!!

How am I able to do that? Because I'm no longer trading time for money.

Best. Decision. Ever. !!!

✅ I'm able to still share what I love (Yoga 🫶🏼)

❌ BUT I'm no longer hustling around to 12+ classes per week!

NOW:

🌎 I'm free to work from anywhere in the world

🏝️ Take days off when I want/need

✈️ I have the freedom to travel

💰 AND I get to wake up to new students joining my online programs (making money in my sleep!!!)

IF YOU'RE FEELING THIS TOO AND ARE READY TO STOP TRADING YOUR TIME FOR MONEY AND ONLY TEACH WHEN/IF YOU WANT TO, CREATING AN ONLINE COURSE CAN BE LIFE CHANGING FOR YOU TOO!

When are you going to decide to change your life? ✨

5 Ways to take your yoga business online

Yoga teachers: It's time to take your career to the next level- ONLINE

Gone are the days where you need to hustle to 14+ classes per week just to make enough money every month!

What if you could STILL share your passion for yoga but in a more passive way?  You are already a teacher, you're already sharing yoga and wellness, so why not offer something online and have more sustainable income?

Here are 5 ways to take your yoga business online (so you can earn money from ANYWHERE!)

1. Online Privates: Some students prefer learning in a 1:1 setting, so offering privates that work with peoples schedules is a great idea.

2. Workshops: Similar to drop in classes, you can offer online workshops that your students (and new students) can join from the comfort of their home. You won't need to rent a yoga studio or split the earnings with anyone :) People will be able to watch on their own time from anywhere in the world!

3. Mentoring: If you're an experienced teacher or have a specialization in an area (like yin yoga, prenatal yoga, yoga for menopause, yoga for children, etc.) you can mentor newer yoga teachers online

4. Memberships: You can offer memberships for students to join your pre-recorded classes and have access to a community of all members (on something like Slack, Facebook group, WhatsApp group) in a subscription style model

5. Online courses/programs : The most profitable option (in my personal experience) is to create your own online course.  This can be a live or pre-recorded course offering some sort of transformation, like a certification program, how to achieve a certain pose, how to organise your own yoga retreats, etc.

Making the transition online can allow you to reach a broader audience PLUS have more freedom in your own schedule to do the things that you love!

When are you going to decide to change your life? ✨

Why I am sharing my toolbox so you can make your own online course?

I am not a techie person at all! If you’d have told me a few years back that I would have an online business I would have laughed and said no way that’s not me at all. Yet here I am! My online business is my main source of income and was pre-pandemic.

I believe in sharing and helping elevate others as we all have our own communities that we support in our own unique ways.  I want to share my way of creating a course so that you don’t have to go through the same pitfalls that I did. It’s the road map to getting to a solid starting point for launch and the foundation to getting it out to the people who need your skills.

create your own online course

I’m not going to lie it’s a process and a commitment to creating an online offering as it involves the creation process and outlay of work at the start but the rewards are amazing.

It’s the best feeling having someone sign up and want to do the offering with you. It is a feeling that even after a few years never gets old.  Then when a student completes the program or course it’s another buzz knowing you’ve contributed to this person. For me knowing that they’ve elevated their teaching knowledge and will get a return on their investment as they teach those particular classes in their community is an amazing feeling. I feel really proud of students who share what it’s meant to them and what they’ve gone on to do.

I am here to help support you to get there for yourself.

Where do I even start in creating an online course?

create your own online course

This is a very good question!

Where to start is an important question to reflect on.

My suggestion would be to choose a niche.

Google defines a niche as "a specialized segment of the market for a particular kind of product or service."

In the online course world, this means you want to find a very specific group of people and solve a problem for them.

Examples:

  • Yoga teachers who want to learn how to use instagram to find new students

  • Yoga practitioners who want to learn how to handstand

  • People in the corporate world who want to add 30 minutes of yoga to their day

  • Yoga for moms with limited time

  • Learn to teach meditation with a certified course

  • Help those wanting to sleep better by using Ayurveda

We want to think of a certain group of people (that you're familiar with and can relate to) and solve a problem for them.

To break it down further, list out your skills whether these are certified or things you do and know you would love to share about.

Looking at this list, what things would you want to share or something you used to struggle with a few years ago or perhaps you get asked about all the time?

To give you an example, a few years ago I really wanted to learn how to create an online course to still be able to share Yoga & Ayurveda with students, even though I was no longer in Bali.

I was a yoga teacher who wanted more freedom in my schedule

This is now who my ideal clients are. Yoga teachers who are ready to start earning passive income by creating their own online courses.

When you’re trying to decide on your course topic, less is going to be more. You want to be as specific as possible in terms of who you’d like to help and what you’re helping them with.

From your lists narrow it down further and pick the top 3 topics that you would want to share.

With these 3 topics, think about the following questions:

WHAT problem do you solve?

WHOSE problem are you solving?

With these two questions try to write as much and as detailed as possible.  Be really specific.  Imagine the person you are trying to solve the problem for.  Give them a name, where do they live, what do they do, what is their lifestyle, etc.

From these 3 topics, which one would you want to start with now? This will be your niche.

Why is it important to have some of your business online?

Where do I even start with an online course?

This is a really important question to ask yourself.  Why have some of your business online?

For me it has meant being able to work location independent and share the skills that I had spent years developing. When I moved to Tahiti from Bali I had no job and no opportunity to work due to the visa I was on. It meant I needed to make a big shift to create an income for myself. Online was the only viable option.  I had to learn how to make the online courses from scratch, marketing them to supporting everyone who signed up.  I learnt so many lessons along the way.  With every mishap there was always something to tweak, change or adapt.

My online courses gave me access to a far bigger community and student base than I have ever had teaching in person.

Now I have my trainings and course online, I can focus on marketing them and supporting the community.  This takes less time than me teaching full time and rushing from class to class.  I get a lot of satisfaction at knowing students are adding to their own toolbox and taking the knowledge I’ve shared and implementing it into their own communities.

Take a moment to think about what you could gain from taking your project online whether it’s a workshop series, a course, e-book or talks.

Is it about increasing your financial opportunities so you’re not living pay check to pay check?

Is it about having another stream of revenue coming in that can be more passive?

Do you want to be more of your “own boss” rather than dependent on studio classes or one to ones?

Do you feel burnt out from classes and hustling for opportunities?

Or are you looking to reach a bigger audience?

Or are you looking to create more time for yourself or your family?
